The Gainesville Hawthorne State Trail is a great place to go for a bike ride, hike, or horse ride. It is a nicely paved 16-mile bike trail (16 miles each way) that stretches from Hawthorne to Gainesville. There is a grassy equestrian trail that also follows the paved bike path. There are very nice bridges to cross streams and waterways. Most of the trail goes through a tunnel of trees providing shade on those sunny days. While riding on the trail you are immersed in nature. Beautiful flowers, trees, and animal life to see, while listening to the birds chirping. There are several parking lots to park your vehicle at while on the trail. The trail head nearest Citra Royal Palm RV Park is located at : 2182 S.E. 71st Avenue, Hawthorne -- just west of the railroad tracks and west of highway 301 in Downtown Hawthorne.
